JOSEPI
Tenor saxophonist blending jazz theory with hip-hop, house and lofi — live alongside DJs and vocalists.
Biography
Joe 'Josepi' Nellis plays Tenor Saxophone in various acts around Chicagoland. Josepi spent 2 years in the Illinois State University Jazz Band before playing in a classic rock n' roll band for 10+ years, arranging parts for both saxophone and trumpet on songs by artists such as Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones. Since 2018 he has been a part of The Rockin' Eldorados, playing authentic vintage 50's–60's Rock n' Roll.
After studying jazz theory and musicians such as Miles Davis and Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis, Josepi combines melodic jazz influences with recognizable hip-hop, house and lofi beats. Current influences include Masego and BadBadNotGood, and he can often be heard playing along to jams from artists such as Drake, Kanye West and Childish Gambino.
Expanding on his sound, he now plays live music with local DJs and vocalists, as well as becoming a session artist for various studios.
